Course Overview

The Queen Anne English College IELTS Preparation Course is designed to prepare international students, from a range of backgrounds and nationalities, to undertake either tertiary study or professional experience in the field of business in Australia or overseas for the General and Academic Training Modules of the IELTS Test.

Course Objectives

Successful completion of each level of the IELTS Preparation Course could lead to:

  • Level 1 – Certificate and diploma courses.
  • Level 2 – Tertiary courses at Bachelor level.

Place of Study

This course is delivered in our classrooms at Level 1, 49 Raymond Street, Bankstown NSW 2200 and /or Level 4 225 Clarence Street Sydney 2000.

Course Outcomes

  • Be familiar with the structure of the IELTS test.
  • Be familiar with and able to successfully complete the main task types in each of the four test modules.
  • Give an accurate written description of at least 150 words in 20 minutes and write a formal essay of at least 250 words in 40 minutes.
  • Speak on familiar topics in short question and answer form, a 2 minute speech and a discussion.
  • Successfully identify and listen for keywords, specific information and main points in the context of semi-formal or academic listening tasks; identify key participants and their relationships, location and purpose of interaction in a conversation; and predict and interpret information from a given context.
  • Skim and scan texts for specific information; summarise tests identifying main and supporting ideas; separate essential from non-essential information based on what questions are asking; and distinguish between argument and fact.
  • Have a sufficient working knowledge of the five IELTS key topics.

Be able to aim for the equivalent of at least a band 5 on the full test assuming they can:

  • Communicate reasonable fluently, clearly and interestingly in speaking and writing tasks using appropriate cohesive devices, accurate grammar and sentence structure and appropriate vocabulary and register.
  • Answer the questions concisely without irrelevant divergences.
  • Be competent in communication tasks representative of those necessary to function in an English-speaking tertiary study environment (as demonstrated by overall performance results, including the above and also participation in class.

Course delivery arrangements

The program will be delivered to a maximum of 24 weeks. Classes will be run 4 days a week Monday to Thursday either in the morning from Monday to Friday
7.00 am to 11.15 am and / or afternoon /evening classes from 4.30 pm to 10.00 pm. Morning sessions include a break of 15 minutes and afternoon /evening sessions include a break of 30 minutes. Student will be expected to undertake approximately five hours of self-study per week. Students can access individual support as required.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing and all assessment items must be completed to ensure successful completion of the course.

Entry requirements

  • Students must be over 18 years of age.
  • The student has successfully completed the College English Placement Test.
  • Students must have an English proficiency of IELTS level 5.0 or equivalent for IELTS Level 1 and IELTS 6.0 or equivalent for IELTS Level 2.
  • The student has successfully completed a QAEC General English Course that articulates into the IELTS course.

Students will also be required to organize and pay for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) before arriving in Australia to covert the duration of the student visa. Queen Anne English College can provide details of OSHC providers where this cover can be arranged.

Course fees

The total fees for this course are $AUD 5,000 plus the application fee of $AUD 250. This includes all tuition fees, materials, and administration costs.

  • All fees are due upon acceptance of offer letter and signing the student agreement.
  • Students who need to make installments must enter payment plan agreement with the college. In this case, detailed payment plan will appear on student offer letter.

Enrolment and Orientation

Upon acceptance of a student’s application for enrolment, a letter of offer, as well as a written agreement and tax invoice for remaining fees, will be forwarded to students. A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer and written agreement are received.

The first day of each course will include orientation and induction. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout your study, including attendance and course progress requirements.
